Hybrid – from two different origins, blended and mixed

When speaking of hybrid yarns what is meant is two or several different fibre characteristics united in the one yarn. Using Dref3 technology it is possible to produce core/sheath structures.

For example a high strength yarn core from Kevlar can be spun with a skin friendly sheath of viscose. It can also be used, however, to provide sensitive material (e.g. carbon fibres) with a protective coating to make further processing possible. Additionally a filament or a monofilament core can be inserted in the yarn making it possible to produce yarns from three components.

Hybrid yarns from Schoeller consist of sheath-core structures which are manufactured in our own plant using DREF3 technology.

Examples of sheath fibres:
para-aramides, meta-aramides, viscose FR, polyester, melamine fibres, polypropylene, modacrylic, polyamide, cotton…

Examples of core fibres:
para-aramides, meta-aramides, polyester, polyester HT, glass filament, wires, carbon, monofilaments…

Those who work with sharp-edged materials and tools put the protective clothing to the test. Hybrid yarns with steel wire in their core ensure an extremely high cut resistance according to EN 388 (level 5).
